Narigrantha Prabartana

Narigrantha Prabartana is Women’s Resource Centre and runs a bookstore. It is a place for women and also an active space for social activism and policy advocacy. By its very presence as a Women Book Store and intellectual resources for activist women, Narigrantha symbolises resistance against patraiarchy. Women from any backgropund can meet, interact and organize their own events through Narigrantha Prabartana.

Narigrantha Prabartana keeps books published by different organisations, individuals and publishers. These are available to purchase or read. As a publisher, Narigrantha Prabartana publishes books, pamphlets, posters and other important research works to facilitate women’s movement.

Monday Adda

Narigrantha Prabartana provides space to women for meetings. It organizes Monday “adda” — an informal social gathering that plays very significant role in sharing and strengthening ’s knowledge and encourage them in various social activities. Such informal and open social gatherings do not follow any formal structure of agenda setting and discussion.

Women have been participating in Monday Adda, in Bangla known as Sombarer Meyeder Adda, for about 24 years since January 1990 with the presence of about 30 to 40 women on a regular basis. They come to talk, laugh, share their thoughts on different social and political issues, environment, food and ofcourse sarees.

Poets, writers, singers find it a place to share their talent and enjoy in an informal way. They plan for visits to different areas, decide to join a seminar, protest rallies and anything that is relevant to women's right.

They also collect money, old clothes at the time of natural disasters, or severe winter to help people in need.

International Days

Since  inception in 1989, Narigrantha regularly celebrates 8 March as  as International Women Day. On this occassion Narigrantha flags a paricular theme relevent for the women's movement and and organise the event to mobilise women from all classe and background.
